Who Says a Man and Woman Can’t be Friends

It is hard for many to believe that a man and woman can be just good friends. However, evidence does show that it is not only possible, but it happens every day. Just because two people are of the opposite sex, it does not mean they must have romantic feelings for one another.

Male and females befriending one another benefits both of them. They each can learn about the opposite sex from each other, they can advice each other on relationship issues. They can also just hang out and have a good time with each other.

Therefore if your mate has a friend of the opposite gender, do not automatically think something is going on. They may just be good friends and should be allowed to continue that friendship. Keep an open mind.

Cell Phones Are Now for Texting, Not Talking

In these days of owning a cell phone that does about everything imaginable, most don’t think twice of sending text messages to friends and family instead of using the phone for what it was originally invented for–making phone calls! The telephone conversation is becoming more the exception than the rule, especially with the younger generation who have grown up with cell phones being an everyday part of their life. It does not even occur to most of them to actually talk on the cell phone that they hold in their hand, which is very humorous to most older people who were lucky to have one land line corded phone in their home growing up, and no cordless telephones or any type of cell phones were still unheard of. Telephone conversations seem to be almost a thing of the past now, and before long they will probably end altogether–won’t that be sad?

Happy Days are here again, or are they? Most everyone can remember the weekly television series Happy Days with their cast of characters staring Henry Winkler. This cast was so molded together into what was the typical American family. The difference being was that jobs were plentiful, economy was good and stable. CD’s were paying 15%. People were able to build for retirement. The divorce rate was much lower. Family values were supported by a stable father and mother. Where have the Happy Days gone? The falling economy, divorce, loss of homes and jobs and the list continues to grow. 50 years ago up until the last 10 years were certainly Happy Days for most. Very few are finding Happy Days in our current world of problems.

Will our Happy Days return? Many think they will cycle around and others feel that they will get worse. Time can only tell.

The First Time you go out with Someone

The first time you meet someone, usually a blind date, can be very nerve racking and you are racking your brain trying to figure out what to say. If the two of you are both quiet, then it can be hard to get through dinner unless one of you can think of something to say to get the conversation rolling.

You can talk about what the other does for a living and feed off of that subject. You may do the same thing and already you guys have something in common. You can talk about other things to break the ice as well such as education or talking about the weather is always a good subject.

If you are having trouble thinking of something for your first dinner dates, have a few questions either written down or in your mind after the two of you exchange handshakes and sit down.

Permits and Protesting

One of the common forms of non-violent resistance used by protestors is a peaceful demonstration. These demonstrations may take the form of marches, rallies, vigils or sit-ins. Direct confrontation with legal authority is avoided at all costs, as the purpose of the gathering is to provide a means to get a message out to the public for or against an issue. A peaceful demonstration is planned to ensure that all the legal permits are filed to allow the protestors to gather and that the members of the demonstration are aware that this is going to be a form of non-violent resistance. The more peaceful the demonstration, the more chance the protestors believe they have to changing the opinion of people who have not made up their mind about the issue. Peaceful demonstrations often have speakers, music, food and other forms of entertainment to draw people to the protest in hopes of educating them on the issue.

June 17, 2006 was a day that I would never forget. It was the day that I had my very first car wreck. I was 17 and I still did not have my driver’s license so my mom decided to take me driving early one Sunday morning. I was a little nervous because I had not driven in over two years. Everything was going fine until I accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes.

I was so panicked that I did not even realize that I had mistaken the gas for the brakes. I ended up going off of the road and hit a telegram pole. The car was totaled but fortunately, my mother and I did not have any injuries. My first car crash was a horrible experience but every time I think about it, I realize how lucky I am to be alive.

Evolving Definitions of Society

While the term human society may seem to have global applications, it’s definition is restricted to the communities formed by people who are in a consistent relation to each other. Prior to the popularity of the Internet, societies were geographically contained. If people were not in constant or consistent real time contact with each other, they were determined to be of a separate society. The rise of social media is changing the perception of the boundaries of what is human society. Use of the Internet has removed geographic restrictions on relations and allowed societies to develop that are global. Understanding the impact on how Internet communities grow and how they fulfill the definition of being a human society without any personal contact is one of the issues confronting social scientists. The strength of these virtual communities is challenging long held beliefs about how communities function.

Fair trade is a term that is used when developing countries are trying to promote better trading conditions and promote the fact that they are sustainable. It focuses on the trading of items from countries who are still developing into countries that are already developed. Some of the most common items associated with fair trade include tea, coffee, cocoa, bananas, chocolate, flowers and even gold.

Fair trade products accounts for almost 5 billion in sales each and every year. Some of the fair trade products account for anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of a country’s sales. If you are a country that is doing a lot of sales of fair trade products it is important to keep the items coming in on a steady basis. While some see fair trade as a positive endeavor, others see it as something that is going to slow down the growth of countries.
