It used to be if you wanted to know things or be entertained books were a great way to feed those desires, so it wasn’t usual to find a bookworm. But today, there are many more alternatives. There’s televison, movies, Internet, games, and so much more. Many people don’t find the time to read as much as they used to. Still many stay committed to books.

The bookworm still out there, but his world in changing. He once read only physical books, but now reads books on the computer, a cell phone or e-reader. He gets his book fix by enjoying audio books during their daily commute to the office.

Many children’s books come in electronic formats allowing children more interaction with their book as they read or are read to. There are pros and cons to all these changes, but the important thing is that bookworms are still reading.

Roughly 12,000 boys in blue are expected to lose their jobs this year thanks to deep cuts in local budgets caused by the uncertain economy. The Justice Department reports that available law enforcement jobs plummeted in 2011, the first decline seen in this sector in the past 25 years. While some believe that there will be fewer policemen and other law enforcement officials watching out for your safety for the next 5 to 10 years, more dire predictions believe this trend is here to stay.

Fewer boys in blue patrolling the streets will inevitably result in higher crime rates. Municipalities that were used to allocating up to 50 percent of their budgets to the safety of their residents must now look to consolidate services and exploit new technologies to get the job done. Only time will tell how this will impact our cities, towns and, most importantly, our citizens.

Did you ever have one of those days when you just about had enough and you felt as though you may lose your marbles? Well it happens to all of us one time or another. You might wonder why things are going so wrong and you may not be able to handle any more stress.

People who can’t handle stress might get the feeling that they are out of control and in a sense, have lost my marbles. When this happens, don’t be too hard on yourself. There is no reason to stress over things that are over and done with. Keeping calm is the first thing you need to do. Once you know you can handle the situation at hand the feeling of control will return and you will get back every last marble that you thought you lost.

It is hard for many to believe that a man and woman can be just good friends. However, evidence does show that it is not only possible, but it happens every day. Just because two people are of the opposite sex, it does not mean they must have romantic feelings for one another.

Male and females befriending one another benefits both of them. They each can learn about the opposite sex from each other, they can advice each other on relationship issues. They can also just hang out and have a good time with each other.

Therefore if your mate has a friend of the opposite gender, do not automatically think something is going on. They may just be good friends and should be allowed to continue that friendship. Keep an open mind.

When you are trying to find the best fast cars on the market today, it can often be very difficult. The process however is not impossible and so you should take a somewhat strategic approach towards the process. The first step is to really understand what you are looking for and why you are even buying a car. If you are looking for a car to just get you from point A to point B, then you really do not need to worry about finding the best looking car. Finding fast cars will only be important if you are someone that likes to travel a lot or someone that would like to drive fast on certain highways. This is ultimately the first choice that you need to focus on and you should not forget how important it is to find a right car that will get you from point A to point B.

To this day where would the best Wild West vacation be. If the family can take a trip out to Deadwood South Dakota they may find one of the best Wild West settings still alive. While in Deadwood make sure the family stops in at the saloon where Wild Bill was shot, as the saloon still offers a view of Wild Bill sitting dead in the chair with his dead mans hand. Also after that make sure to head out to the streets and enjoy during the summer when they offer Wild West shootout shows for the public to watch. A third thing to do is stop by and pay a visit to the two wildest criminals of the west at their grave sides. Lastly for a good family fun is catch the old steam train as it travels along the route used duirng the wild west.

In these days of owning a cell phone that does about everything imaginable, most don’t think twice of sending text messages to friends and family instead of using the phone for what it was originally invented for–making phone calls! The telephone conversation is becoming more the exception than the rule, especially with the younger generation who have grown up with cell phones being an everyday part of their life. It does not even occur to most of them to actually talk on the cell phone that they hold in their hand, which is very humorous to most older people who were lucky to have one land line corded phone in their home growing up, and no cordless telephones or any type of cell phones were still unheard of. Telephone conversations seem to be almost a thing of the past now, and before long they will probably end altogether–won’t that be sad?

The light bulb of the eighteen hundreds has come a long way. In the beginning, the bulbs were very dim and needed to be close to their source of power to work. Improvements in the late 1870′s made them brighter and increased the life of the bulb to thirteen and a half hours. Then Thomas Edison came along and lengthened the life of the bulb to just under fifteen hours.

Today we have light bulbs in practically unlimited sizes, shapes, colors and wattage to light up and beautify our homes. Now it’s time to transition to the new energy saving fluorescent bulbs. Fortunately, the manufacturers have done the research for us, and information is available to assist us in planning which bulbs to use our homes. The good news is that the new energy saving light bulbs will last a whopping eight thousand to fifteen thousand hours.

Happy Days are here again, or are they? Most everyone can remember the weekly television series Happy Days with their cast of characters staring Henry Winkler. This cast was so molded together into what was the typical American family. The difference being was that jobs were plentiful, economy was good and stable. CD’s were paying 15%. People were able to build for retirement. The divorce rate was much lower. Family values were supported by a stable father and mother. Where have the Happy Days gone? The falling economy, divorce, loss of homes and jobs and the list continues to grow. 50 years ago up until the last 10 years were certainly Happy Days for most. Very few are finding Happy Days in our current world of problems.

Will our Happy Days return? Many think they will cycle around and others feel that they will get worse. Time can only tell.

There are many people unemployed today. They are looking for jobs of any kind that will help them pay their bills and keep food on their table. Most of the people will be willing to take part time work if they cannot find a full time job. Some will even take several part time jobs just to survive in this sagging economy. Part time work can be found around the holidays such as delivering mail to customers or working in department stores. Sometimes obtaining a part time job until a full time job is available can make a difference in paying your bills or not. Part time work can even become full time eventually. Who knows your part time job may be your future career? So if you are unemployed, think about finding part time work with the hopes that it might become a more permanent solution to your career.

There are a few services on the web that will allow you to make free phone calls via the internet. You have to do a little research to find out exactly which ones offer this service, but the research is well worth it. Once you locate a company, you will be able to set up a phone number and start making calls immediately using a headset with a microphone. The callers on the other end will hear you clearly, as if you were using a landline. The only downside to using a program like this is that you have to have internet access at all times, and you must have your computer turned on to make or receive phone calls. If you are able to live with that, then you could save hundreds of dollars per year on telephone service without having to purchase additional equipment.

If ostriches have always fascinated you, there are places to ride them and farms to visit to learn even more about them. A visit to C.P. Nel Museum affords opportunities to view exhibits and gain a wealth of information about their history. In the area of Oudtshoorn there are venues to watch ostrich races. If this is not enough, you can sample biltong which is a jerky-type snack made from ostrich meat.

For those who have outgrown the tree house they had as a child, visit Africa where tree houses are large enough for the whole family to sleep in. Some tree houses complete with a thatch roof are literally built in marcella trees with all the amenities of home including a jacuzzi. From the deck of your tree house you might even spot a majestic giraffe passing by.

A full solar eclipse causes a brief period of darkness during daylight hours. It is not, however, as dark during a partial solar eclipse when the sun, moon and earth are not in complete alignment. According to the Stanford SOLAR Center, when a total eclipse occurs you will see it only from a certain part of the earth. For this reason, astronomy enthusiasts may travel long distances in order to witness the spectacular sight. In a partial solar eclipse, the moon does not fully block view of the sun and you have a better chance of catching a glimpse of it regardless where you live on the earth.

Rubber ducks have historically been known as toys for children to play with during their baths, but in recent years, they have gained popularity as more people are interested in collecting rubber ducks.

To start collecting rubber ducks, determine how you are going to store and display them. Will they be featured in the open, or will you place them in a box in the closet to share with special guests?

Next, find out where you can purchase rubber ducks. Many gift stores and online vendors have them for sale. There are several different kinds of rubber ducks available in addition to the traditional yellow and orange rubber duck. Additionally, it may be fun to consider including rubber ducks in decorations placed throughout the home for various holidays, such as Easter or Christmas.

The ones playing the games do not even realize that they are learning while they are playing. Life is about learning new things. Computer games can teach us new skills as well as be enjoyable to play. Computer games are no longer just a babysitter for our children. They are their teacher as well. The games can teach eye and hand coordination. They can improve our typing skills. The benefits of the computer games go way beyond just being for fun anymore. They have become the new teaching technique used for all ages to learn new skills and to improve the old skills.

The human body is an amazing machine that can do a lot of unique things. For instance, our brains work similar to that of a computer. It can add, multiply, subtract and divide lots of complex problems. Our minds can also process information it has taken in, analyze it, and then come up with possible solutions.

The brain can store anything such as sounds, feelings, pain, and even memories. Even though, recalling millions of events is challenging. With that being said, the eyes take in up to 90% of information at an amazing speed. It is no wonder we are visual creatures.

The largest organ is the skin and each person will shed up to 40 pounds of skin in a lifetime. This is because the skin flakes and sheds constantly. Everyone grows less than an inch when they sleep but they shrink back to normal the next day as they stand, sit and walk.

The first time you meet someone, usually a blind date, can be very nerve racking and you are racking your brain trying to figure out what to say. If the two of you are both quiet, then it can be hard to get through dinner unless one of you can think of something to say to get the conversation rolling.

You can talk about what the other does for a living and feed off of that subject. You may do the same thing and already you guys have something in common. You can talk about other things to break the ice as well such as education or talking about the weather is always a good subject.

If you are having trouble thinking of something for your first dinner dates, have a few questions either written down or in your mind after the two of you exchange handshakes and sit down.

One of the common forms of non-violent resistance used by protestors is a peaceful demonstration. These demonstrations may take the form of marches, rallies, vigils or sit-ins. Direct confrontation with legal authority is avoided at all costs, as the purpose of the gathering is to provide a means to get a message out to the public for or against an issue. A peaceful demonstration is planned to ensure that all the legal permits are filed to allow the protestors to gather and that the members of the demonstration are aware that this is going to be a form of non-violent resistance. The more peaceful the demonstration, the more chance the protestors believe they have to changing the opinion of people who have not made up their mind about the issue. Peaceful demonstrations often have speakers, music, food and other forms of entertainment to draw people to the protest in hopes of educating them on the issue.

June 17, 2006 was a day that I would never forget. It was the day that I had my very first car wreck. I was 17 and I still did not have my driver’s license so my mom decided to take me driving early one Sunday morning. I was a little nervous because I had not driven in over two years. Everything was going fine until I accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes.

I was so panicked that I did not even realize that I had mistaken the gas for the brakes. I ended up going off of the road and hit a telegram pole. The car was totaled but fortunately, my mother and I did not have any injuries. My first car crash was a horrible experience but every time I think about it, I realize how lucky I am to be alive.

The basics behind how combustion engines work is pretty straight forward. The burning of the fuel and air in the combustion chamber create power that forces certain parts of the engine to move with great force. The power and motion that is generated is then transferred to the wheels to provide motion.

This process all begins with a smaller starter motor that begins the motion, which in turn moves the motor, the crankshaft then connecting rods and pistons. The piston is responsible for compressing the air and fuel in the combustion chamber. When the combustion has occurred, this moves the crankshaft which in turn keeps the pistons moving up and down through the cylinder.

As long as the engine is running the combustion will continue. In addition the motor must be properly mechanically timed to allow a spark, which is the main power behind the entire combustion process.

Earth is home to more than 30 million species of life forms from the tiniest organisms to the complex humans. A vast number of species are located within the equatorial rain forests. Two huge causes threaten the presence of rain forests. First, clearing land to make room for the grazing of beef to keep up with the increasing demand from the United States is becoming more and more popular. Additionally, clearing forests for the production of wood based products to meet worldwide demand is a common practice.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency suggests that several dozen species are becoming extinct every day as a result of rain forest reduction. Once a species is extinct it is impossible for that species to return. Many of the various species located in the rain forest have been beneficial in developing medications and other research. The very operation of the world is at stake.

While the term human society may seem to have global applications, it’s definition is restricted to the communities formed by people who are in a consistent relation to each other. Prior to the popularity of the Internet, societies were geographically contained. If people were not in constant or consistent real time contact with each other, they were determined to be of a separate society. The rise of social media is changing the perception of the boundaries of what is human society. Use of the Internet has removed geographic restrictions on relations and allowed societies to develop that are global. Understanding the impact on how Internet communities grow and how they fulfill the definition of being a human society without any personal contact is one of the issues confronting social scientists. The strength of these virtual communities is challenging long held beliefs about how communities function.

From electric cars to windmill farms, there are many options for producing green energy. Two types of green energy have been around for years.

Solar energy is typically the first type of green energy that comes to mind. Solar energy is used in many ways. Solar energy produces electricity using photovoltaic cells. Solar energy can heat water and heat homes using radiator systems. Passive solar heating can heat south-facing homes using dark heat-retaining materials such as stone on that side of the house.

Hydroelectric power created by dams is used around the word. The water running through the dam turns turbines which create electricity. Most hydroelectric products are massive projects with huge dams and large impoundments (lakes) behind them. Recreational use of the impoundments bring commerce to nearby localities.

Green energy uses emerging technologies and older technologies, too. Green energy will bring new jobs, inexpensive energy and a cleaner future.

Technology is always advancing and changing. The technology of the home is a showcase of this rapid change .The clearest example of the change that technology has had on a household technological item is the once humble, but now amazing television. Televisions only recently were large and cumbersome items. Televisions’ required a large space footprint for any home. Only recently has it even become possible to consider the wild prospect of hanging a TV from a wall. This prospect and now reality has happened due to the recent invention of the flatscreen television. Now it is possible to place a TV anywhere within the home. No longer is the homeowner restricted by weight and space issues. As well as being more mobile, the TV itself is capable of producing a much higher quality image. Modern TV’s with their HDTV capabilities simply outshine older forms of TV in every crucial way.

Fair trade is a term that is used when developing countries are trying to promote better trading conditions and promote the fact that they are sustainable. It focuses on the trading of items from countries who are still developing into countries that are already developed. Some of the most common items associated with fair trade include tea, coffee, cocoa, bananas, chocolate, flowers and even gold.

Fair trade products accounts for almost 5 billion in sales each and every year. Some of the fair trade products account for anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of a country’s sales. If you are a country that is doing a lot of sales of fair trade products it is important to keep the items coming in on a steady basis. While some see fair trade as a positive endeavor, others see it as something that is going to slow down the growth of countries.
