The light bulb of the eighteen hundreds has come a long way. In the beginning, the bulbs were very dim and needed to be close to their source of power to work. Improvements in the late 1870′s made them brighter and increased the life of the bulb to thirteen and a half hours. Then Thomas Edison came along and lengthened the life of the bulb to just under fifteen hours.
Today we have light bulbs in practically unlimited sizes, shapes, colors and wattage to light up and beautify our homes. Now it’s time to transition to the new energy saving fluorescent bulbs. Fortunately, the manufacturers have done the research for us, and information is available to assist us in planning which bulbs to use our homes. The good news is that the new energy saving light bulbs will last a whopping eight thousand to fifteen thousand hours.
